World Steel Association, announced the top producer of iron ore and iron ingots with classification of countries and companies. According to the report, at the section of crude steel production, China is in the first place by producing 683.9 million tons per year! After that Japan by producing 107.6, USA with production of 86.4, Ukraine with 35.5, Brazil with 35.2 and Turkey with Production of 34.1 million tons per year is in 2nd place to 10th. Iran with producing 15.64 million tons per annum is at the 17th place. China will make a breakthrough in the steel industry as well as many other things in the future:

World, including Iran, will require new sources of iron ore.

Steel industry will move increasingly towards mineral resources.

Scrap metal prices will increase.

New Technologies that can produce steel from lower grade of iron ore will be economical.

In general, according to the Ministry of Industry and Mine, production of active crude steel producers across the country is about 15.64 million tons per year that it is expected to raise up to 20 million ton per year by commissioning and operation of new units. Lipar Project

The project is based on a yearly production of 2,2 MTPA tons of liquid steel billet and 2,1 MTPA tons of rolling products. It primarily consists of a 2×140 Tons of Twin Shell Electric Arc Furnace, Ladle Furnaces and VD-OB Plant with Rolling Mill facilities with 4 different product ranges. The steel scrap and DRI, which is the main raw material of this plant, will be sourced from the domestic. It is further envisaged that the products produced will be sold to customers in Iran or nearby countries in the Middle East.

It is our understanding that the plant will be located in a designated industrial area with a neighboring port that has adequate docking facilities, in order to receive and unload cargo ships bringing essential raw materials as well as for the exportation of finished products.

The disadvantages of steel production methods other than the electro-steel production method include the long-term that the planning and installation processes take, and high investment costs, and high cost structure as well as rigid structure towards the market demand.

PLANT MAIN FEATURES

The liquid steel flow and raw material flow have to be studied and optimized thus determining the location of the technological equipment. Also the positioning of the auxiliary equipment such as the ladle maintenance areas, the fume treatment plant and the material handling system have to be carefully studied in order to not interfere with the production/material flow on one side and to minimize the overall area requirements

IRON ORE BENEFICIATION

Iron ore obtained from the crushing, separation and high-grading of iron ore products and used as initial feeding in pellets plant, production of sponge iron directly and briquetted.

The depletion of high grade reserves coupled with increasing market pressure for improved product quality has forced iron ore producers to re-examine their process flowsheets and evaluate alternate or supplemental processing routes.

For many iron ore producers selling pellets in the highly competitive international market place, the ability to produce high quality products at low cost has become vitally important.

MINES FACILITY

The characteristics of the iron ore iron ore and the first phase of the iron ore concentrate concentrate unit, Lipar Co. are as follows.

  1.  The name of the Ghordahan iron ore mine, located 223 km from the Chabahar port.
  2.  Mine Owner: Lipar Oceans Co.
  3. Concrete mineral deposit with new geophysical exploration exploration during extraction of more than 100 million tons.
  4. At least the grade of iron flask in the mine is 54%.
  5. Maximum iron cast iron in the mine 65%.
  6. Minimum FeO is 9% and maximum FeO is 19% and average 16.5%.
  7. Currently, there are 100,000 tones of husk with an average grade of 54% in the mine.
  8. Pre-processing lines of iron ore with a capacity of 250 tons per hour
  9. The distance of the pre-processing unit from the mine’s No. 1 Pit is about 200 meters.
  10.  The specification of the pre-processing line for iron ore pollen is as follows.
  11. Input Capacity: 250 tons per hour with the ratio of iron ore to tailings of 60 percent.
  12. Line Exit Capacity with Four Separator Magnetic Separators at least 150 tons per hour.

STEEL MAKING FACILITY

IRON ORE BENEFICIATION

Iron ore concentrate is an output product from processed ores that have been milled (crush, grind, magnetic separation) to separate deleterious elements and produce iron ore concentrate with Fe grade of about 68%.

Product specification:

Minimum iron grade in concentrate : 68%

Size distribution of concentrate : 44 micron

Water Content of product : 9%

The iron ore concentrate produced in the process will consist of mainly magnetite, with high iron content. It is suitable for the production of direct reduction grade oxide pellets.

  • At the first phase , which is the first step project in the steel making facility of Lipar. 0,96 Mtpa iron ore concentrate will be produced. In this phase, the first Lipar iron ore concentrator plant are under construction and have been completed 2019 and will be producing.
  • The second concentrator plant by 1.44 Mtpa capacity plant have been completed 2020 and will be producing and phase one will be with the total capacity of producing 2,4 Mt concentrate per year.

SECOND PHASE OF İNVESTMENT

  • The capacity of each 1.2 MTPA two CDRI facilities
  • The capacity of each 1.1 MTPA two Steel Making Shop
  • Rolling mill facilities with 4 different product ranges

۱-CDRI FACILITIES

DRI module proposed is having a total capacity of 1.2 MTPA (hourly production of 150 T and 8,000 operating hours). This module will be designed with a vertical shaft furnace with inside diameter of 5,5 m in the reduction zone. Shaft furnace will have twin bustle header with ports for proper distribution of reducing gas in the furnace. A suitable reformer to produce adequate amount of reducing gas nesting high alloy tubes having nominal diameter of 10’’ will be provided. In addition, module will have heat recovery system called Recuperates. This unit has number of shell and tube type heat exchangers placed in two flow paths of flue gas coming out of Reformer. The unit will preheat feed gas as well as combustion air and will produce adequate steam for the process control. Plant will have suitable number of centrifugal compressors to provide sufficient pressure rise for injecting process gas across entire plant. The plant will be appropriately designed for safe production of DRI.

۲-STEEL MAKING FACILITIES

The raw materils is melt by means of high electricity supplied from graphite electrodes at UHP (ultra-high melting power) EAF equipped with an eccentric bottom tapping system. Oxygen-fuel burners and oxygen-carbon lance manipulators installed onto the furnace’s sidewalls inject oxygen and powder carbon, thus speeding up the process and significantly shortening the time from casting to casting as well as saving energy.

Due to the fact that there is an air gap between the scraps and they come up with a frame, the scrap required for casting is discharged to EAF in baskets two or three times. A certain amount of lime is added in order to create slag during the production process in EAF (the slag is the oxidized accumulation of unwanted elements in the steel).

Oxygen-fuel burners and oxygen-carbon lance manipulators installed onto the furnace’s sidewalls inject oxygen and powder carbon, thus speeding up the process and significantly shortening the time from casting to casting as well as saving energy.

Due to the fact that there is an air gap between the scraps and they come up with a frame, the scrap required for casting is discharged to EAF in baskets two or three times. A certain amount of lime is added in order to create slag during the production process in EAF (the slag is the oxidized accumulation of unwanted elements in the steel).

 The phosphor, an element with an adverse impact on the mechanical and physical characteristics of the steel, is bound to slag thanks to the lime after it is oxidized by means of oxygen injection during the refinement process, and the slag is removed from the steel.

The slag from the arc furnace should be strictly prevented from leaking to the crucible as it has an adverse impact on the sulphur refinement and deoxidization processes from the crucible furnace. Thanks to slag-free casting tapping, the efficiency in deoxidization and additives increases whereas it has a positive impact on the sulphur refinement carried out at the ladle furnace.

While the liquid steel flows into the crucible, the lime as well as other additives (ferroalloy) in necessary amounts will be added, depending on the type of the steel in production. When the crucible is ready for continuous casting, it is picked up by the casting crane from the crucible car and placed on top of the turret (continuous casting machine rotating turret). The crucible, rotated by 180° with the help of turret, will be positioned to casting on tundish (casting tub).

۳-ROLLING MILL FACILITIES

Long products (sections) show a constant cross-sectional area throughout their length, but are usually of variable thickness over the cross-section. Long products include bars and wire rod, sectional steel, and special steel sections.

Most long products are formed between grooved rolls in two-high or three-high stands. Parallel flanged beams are produced in universal stands, which can also be used for rolling rails The wide range of shapes and sizes of long products requires a large number of roll pass designs, and a wide range of rolling mill layouts. Depending on the production program, a comprehensive stock of rolls is required, which can include several thousand sets. The term “rolling mill” includes in this case all equipment required for rolling the material, and also the equipment for feeding, descaling, edging, guiding, hot cutting, and coiling.

  1. MINES INFORMATION

 

 

Lipar Co. Chabahar Free Zone with the aim of extracting and processing huge mineral depos-its of the vast province of Sistan and Baluchestan, creating healthy, dynamic, sustainable and productive employment, contributing to the development of dynamic growth and in line with Iran’s policies on the development of the Makran coast of this hidden treasure of Iran Land, in order to help achieve the objectives of the 5-year vision document and to meet the overall economic policies of the company, with a global, flexible, opportunistic, productive, inward, for-ward, and outsourcing approach, with a total cash of 29.5 Billions of Rials registered at the Chabahar Free Zone Registration Office at No. 3074.

At the time of its establishment, the company has completed its five-year strategic plan, tailor-made to the capacities and potentials of its huge titanium, iron and copper mines in the Fennuj Mining Zone, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, and the first phase of mineral processing units in In order to access the production of iron concentrate and non-separable iron-titanium concentrate, the design, construction, installation and commissioning of its first crushing line, the separation and filling of iron ore with a grinding capacity of 250 tons per hour (5000 tons per day) Finishing and producing Iron Ore.

With the availability of titanium mine titanium titanium deposits, the company has 75% of the machinery of the titanium jumbo and juges mines, it is moving to the mine, which is hoping to be exploited for the next four months as well.

  1. Fanuj Poly Ethylene mines stretch from 100 kilometers south-west of Iranshahr to the border of Kerman province at Rameshk village, with a length of over 178 km and a width of 50 km. these mines are located on the geological zone of macron and has the ocean crust (ophiolite and ophiolite mélange). They also have rare soil minerals such as Titanium, hematite iron, magnetite iron,sulfur copper, chromite, magnesite and magnesium.  The coordinates of the four corners of the mines are as follow:

                The area is about 5800 square km, 1680 square km of which is considered suitable for excavation              and 60% of it is already excavated. Fanuj and Lashar mines are located 200 km from Chabahar,           Iran’s gate to the east, to the south-east, and 370 km from Bandar Abbas to the north-west.

                Based on the recognized potentials of its mines, lipar ocean metal is building a processing and    treatment plant which, after completion, can annually produce iron concentrate of 67.4% carats     with a capacity of 2.5 million tons, base steel with a capacity of 2.5 million tons, unseparated                concentrate of ilmenite, titano-magnet, magnetite iron with a capacity of 6.5 million tons and      industrial rutile with a capacity of 90000 tons and titanium ingot.

  1. The excavation process in 12 titanium mines and one iron mine is finished and the discovery certificate has been obtained, also the extraction permit has been obtained for the iron mine and 2 titanium mines. Since the governmental profit from the titanium mines is excessive and also because of the number of titanium and iron mines, lipar company has postponed the delivery of the reports whose discovery is finished. Furthermore, following lipar company request, the government division has postponed the issue of the discovery certificate to the near future. The number of titanium mines is over 30, iron mines 9 and cooper mines over 12, which in most cases the first and second phase is finished and the discovery certificate can be obtained from the Mining and Trade Organization within 6 months.

                ۲-۱- based on the conducted studies, the titanium stores of Fanuj mines in rock and       placer    deposits is estimated to be 5 billion tons and it is possible to announce them as       being 600             million tons to the related governmental division.

  1. The resource type: the Fanuj titanium mines are of two ore and placer types.

                Titanium resources of  Fanuj consist of titanium-holding ilmenite minerals, titano-            magnet and        rarely rutile. Also the correlation coefficient of these minerals with      magnetite iron is about                 ۰.۹. glossy cross sectional studies show that these minerals do    not have contact with each         other and there is a one-side contact in 20% of the      cases and releasing rate in granule           ores is about 180 microns and these ores are created in the initial magma; therefore this       region has two types of ores: placer ores, created in the periodical corrosions, and the rock               ores       consisting 80% of the ores this manufacturing units.

  1. In the aforementioned mines systematic sampling for chemical analyses is conducted by XRF, ICP, XRD methods, furthermore, thin section and flat glossy cross-sectional studies are conducted and the results determine the carat and trenches determine the amount of the resources. Based on the technological tests conducted, in order to produce pre-concentrate inseparable magnetite iron, ilmenite, titano-magnetite and titanium dioxide, in the process of reviving the solid titanium, the flow sheet has been prepared according to the tests conducted, in which the reviving of ilmenite and titano-magnetite from a carat of tio2 16% is made possible and there is no need to separate these minerals from each other.Based on the technological tests, the flow sheet will consist of producing pre-concentrate in the dry process, inseparable concentrate production in the wet process and reviving the solid mode to make the final product (industrial rutile) and spongy iron

The quality of the final product depends on the type of mineral in the concentrating stage, and in the method adopted by lipar company, the ilmenite, titano-magnetite and magnetite iron are exposed to the reviving solid mode technique without any separation. The carat of  the final product (titanium dioxide) depends intensely on the type of the mineral and the original carat used and based on the tests conducted the minimum carat of the final titanium dioxide in the solid mode reviving method is 57% and the maximum 92%.spongy iron and titanium dioxide are produced from inseparable iron magnetite, ilmenite and titano-magnetite and the quality depends on the amount of the minerals existing in the concentrate; furthermore, based on the conducted tests, the carat of the produced titanium dioxide depends on the type of the  titanium-holding minerals. If the amount of titanium dioxide in the mentioned minerals is 20% and the carat of the iron in the inseparable concentrate is 55% the final product will be 90% carat spongy iron and 57% carat titanium dioxide and any increase in the amount  of ilmenite will result in an increase in the carat of the produced titanium dioxide.
  5. There is a big demand for the spongy iron, titanium dioxide and the other mentioned products in the internal, local and international markets.
